Promotion Denied. What Next?
Question:
If I achieve all the goals set up for me, why was I passed over for promotion? What were the actual expectations?
Advice:
On the surface, your question appears to be a simple one, but this is a very complex question because there are so many variables and perspectives to consider.
Organizational leaders must better develop and articulate their promotion policies, procedures, and processes to internal and external stakeholders. This should be a consideration even if you’re starting out. Once leadership is ready to expand the team, their attention should turn to effectively communicating to potential employees.
Ideally, this would be shared and discussed early in the recruitment phase and at any point after any changes to those policies, procedures, and processes have occurred. Folx should be given the opportunity to make the important decision of joining or staying at an organization based on transparency and accurate information sharing.
